Welcome to Cyber Runner

Cyber Runner is an action rogue‑lite focused on building speed, momentum, and time. Set in the year 2077, the City of Valantria has become polluted and nearly impossible to live in. Security robots have taken over, making survival even harder for the poor.

To save your sick brother, you must collect three serums hidden in warehouses across the city. As you run, you’re constantly pushed to take risks, closing distance on enemies, threading through tight spaces, and maintaining flow to maximize your damage output.

Cyber Runner is about speed, mastery, and the thrill of never slowing down.

I wish you luck on your journey in the City of Valantria.

What went right?

For our team, the determination to develop a game together was strong. Our ability to take an idea and turn it into something interactive met the ultimate objective. The level design and player movement were perfected as well. It was definitely a challenge to execute, but we pushed through the weeks to present what we have now. What helped us keep organized was using Google Sheets to track our progress. Overall, the direction and effort put into this project matched our expectations.

 What went wrong?

In the beginning, the way we were being organized was on Discord. It worked for the majority of the time until it did not. Tasks were lost from messaging, and there was no tracker to tell what needed to be done. Communication was difficult for our group, but after regrouping, we built on what we learned. This was not the only concern, as GitHub and merging branches of our game were very hard to handle. Luckily, the programmer on our team was able to sort everything out for the most part. There were still some bugs that were not salvageable.

 Major Changes

The original idea was first brought up to be an infinite runner that you can shoot in. The only problem was procedural generation and how to form a storyline to enable a good balance. Going from a melee weapon to cutting down half of the weapon system was unfortunate, but it turned out well in the end. The addition of an upgrades menu added some pizzazz to the game, making it rogue-like.

Project Description

This project was made for CPI 211, Game Development II, at Arizona State University. For this game, it achieves a shooter rogue-lite runner that follows a narrative that drives player curiosity. It captures the unique player control movement, level design layout, original music, and unique graphics to make this happen. With robust enemy AI agents that showcase multiple types of mechanics.

This game was so cool! I really enjoy the way the player controller feels as well as the general concept for the game! I felt that it captured very nice PS2 graphics and was a fun play! Good work!
